Answers about mold, hours, process and safety
These answers are general guidance for Boston property owners. Every building is different, so treat them as a starting point and call (617) 928-8038 for your own situation. For service specific questions, each page under Services has its own short list.
How do I know if I have mold?
Common signs are a musty smell, dark or fuzzy patches on walls, ceilings or framing, peeling paint, and areas that stay damp. If you can see growth or smell it repeatedly, it is worth a call.
What are your phone hours?
Calls are taken Monday to Saturday from 8am to 7pm at (617) 928-8038. You can also email [email protected] at any time and we will respond during business hours.
Do you offer emergency mold remediation?
Emergency Mold Remediation is one of our services. Call Monday to Saturday between 8am and 7pm and describe the water event, affected rooms and any immediate safety concerns.
What does mold removal cost?
The cost depends on the size of the area, the materials affected and the moisture source. Call and describe your situation to discuss the scope of work for your property.
Can I remove mold myself?
A small patch of surface mold on a hard, nonporous surface can often be cleaned by an owner using basic protection. Growth on drywall, carpet or framing, or mold covering a larger area, is better handled with containment and professional equipment.
Does bleach kill mold?
Bleach can lighten surface stains but does not reach growth inside porous materials and does nothing about moisture. Fixing the water source matters more than any cleaning product.
Will you test the air for mold?
Mold testing is not one of our listed services. If you want testing, an independent inspector can help, and we can focus on removal and cleanup.
How long does remediation take?
It depends on the size of the affected area, the materials involved and how long drying takes. A small bathroom job and a whole basement are very different, and we can describe a likely sequence on the phone.
Do I have to leave my home during the work?
Not always. With sealed containment, many households stay in unaffected rooms. People with asthma, allergies or weakened immune systems may prefer to stay elsewhere, and a doctor can advise on health concerns.
I rent. Who is responsible for mold?
That depends on your lease, the cause of the moisture and local rules. Photograph the problem, notify your landlord in writing and keep a copy. We handle remediation itself and do not give legal advice.
Will insurance cover mold?
Coverage varies widely by policy and by the cause of the water. Review your policy and speak with your insurer. Photographs and a description of the work can help.
Which areas do you serve?
We serve Boston, including Roslindale, Mattapan and West Roxbury, along with nearby Dedham and Milton. See the Service Areas page for the map.
